Event 155: Pentwyn Leisure Centre (11/11/2017)

Saturday 11 November saw twenty-five stalwart volunteers clearing up the lake, stream, paths and woodland around Pentwyn Leisure Centre.

There was a huge haul of litter and fly-tipped rubbish — 7 scooters, 3 bicycles, a child’s tricycle, 2 traffic cones, most of a motorbike, the inevitable shopping-trolley, a house sign, a playground seahorse (no, really), plus 30 bags of assorted refuse (mostly drinks cans & bottles).

We stopped work at 11am to observe the 2 minutes silence in memory all those who lost their lives in conflict.

A few volunteers had their endeavours rewarded by the sight of a kingfisher flying like an iridescent turquoise bullet up and down the stream behind the leisure centre. (Sadly, no photo.)

And after all the morning’s hard work, Lord Mayor couldn’t resist having another little sit down (thankfully a rather drier one than the last one)…

Our next event will be on Saturday 9 December, when we’ll be clearing up the dock feeder behind the Park Plaza hotel.
