Volunteers needed!

Environmental charity Keep Wales Tidy is calling for volunteers to join the Cefn Fforest and Pengam Ecopark as they rebuild a 15 metre section of dry-stone wall that runs within their 10 acre parkland. The activity is set to take place on 6, 7 and 10 August.

The Cefn Fforest & Pengam Ecopark Project is Wales’s only community run Ecopark. In partnership with Caerphilly Groundwork, GAVO  and CCBC, the Friends of the Ecopark continue their ongoing aspirations to develop and promote the former Pengam Colliery tip site, just off Pengam Road, as a major conservation, educational and recreational facility for the community. This naturally regenerated ten acre site enjoys diverse landscape, flora and fauna, an ideal site to educate our young people about the need for habitat conservation, biodiversity and sustainability right on the door step.

Willing volunteers will be provided with necessary tools and PPE and there are facilities nearby.

Dave King, Keep Wales Tidy trustee and member of Cardiff Rivers Group, will be taking part. He says:

“It’s important to protect this local habitat and I look forward to rolling up my sleeves and working on this project. If members of the community could lend a hand for a few hours together we can transform the area.”

All necessary tools and PPE will be provided, and there are facilities close by. Please contact KWT Project Officer Thom Board for more information about the project. Telephone 029 2072 6987/07824 504818 or email thomas.board@keepwalestidy.org
